Basic Doula/Birth Assistant 
Training $350 

We will use a combination of lecture, interactive games, video, demonstration, imitation, role play, and more to address the following topics:

  • What type of Birth Assistant do I want to be? Doula, midwife's assistant, monitrice, etc.
  • Supporting families prenatally.
  • Pros/Cons of birthing techniques/methods
  • Non-clinical ways to recognize the stages of labor.
  • Getting Dad involved with birth.
  • Comfort measures for stages of labor.
  • Normal variations of labor.
  • Postpartum support for doulas.
  • Building relationships with the birth community.
  • Informed consent and advocacy.


20 hour workshop (2 - 10 hr days, potluck lunch)

Pre-requisite reading required. Minimum 5 participants. Attendance certificate given at completion. Includes post workshop consultation, mentorship, and testing if desired.

Prenatal and Labor Recognition, Implications, and Repositioning Strategies

  • Learn the art of palpation.
  • Discuss ways parents can recognize fetal position.
  • What can be done prenatally?
  • What specialties might you refer to?
  • Why does position matter?
  • Back Labor... Now what?
  • Other signs in labor that position is affecting progress.
  • Correcting positioning during labor.
  • Pushing the baby in a unfavorable position.
  • Babies come out... getting past emotional hangups and fears about malpositioning.
